A New Commuter Bike Style May End The Need For A Bike Lock
Students at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile wanted to combat bike theft, and they’ve come up with an elegant solution. The bike itself is the lock, and if you break the lock, you break the bike. Not sure how it would fair on long runs or fast runs, but it eliminates the need for a u-lock or heavy chain, and as a commuter bike, looks good. Not to mention, it can lock to things larger than a parking meter or regulation bike rack, so that’s pretty cool, too. The student’s company, Yerka Project, is in R&D mode, but is looking to release their product to the public in a couple of years. You can support their efforts by pre-ordering.
